Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prostate disease caused by hormone levels in the body, and its harm is well known in men. Due to different clinical symptoms, it can lead to various complications.
1. Prolapse of anus
Also known as "bowel resection", it refers to a disease of rectal mucosa or rectal prolapse. When prostate hyperplasia occurs, due to difficulty in urination, urine retention in the bladder will be caused, which will increase abdominal pressure and may lead to anal prolapse.
2. Varicose veins of lower limbs
Lower limb varicose veins refer to lesions in which the superficial veins of the lower limb expand, lengthen, and bend into a mass, which can be complicated by ulcers in the late stage. Due to prostate hyperplasia, the pressure of the veins in the body can increase, and the valve continues to withstand excessive pressure, leading to relaxation, prolapse, and incomplete closure, leading to lower limb varicose veins.
3. Uremia
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can cause symptoms such as difficulty urinating and urinary tract obstruction, which can prevent the normal excretion of urine from the body, resulting in retrograde infection of urine. If urine enters the kidneys, it can poison the kidneys, causing renal failure, and the kidneys cannot effectively excrete urine, resulting in uremia.
4. Hernia
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) exhibits difficulty in urinating, requiring frequent exertion and suffocation to urinate. If exertion is frequent, the intestines will protrude from weak areas of the body, forming a hernia.
5. Hemorrhoids
Elevated intra-abdominal pressure can easily cause hemorrhoids, which can be divided into internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids. They are masses caused by varicose veins in the upper and lower rectal venous plexus on both sides of the dentate line. Elevated intra-abdominal pressure can lead to obstruction of venous flow, and congestion in the upper and lower rectal venous plexus, which is an important cause of hemorrhoids. After the current symptoms of dysuria due to hyperplasia of the prostate are relieved, hemorrhoids often heal or alleviate themselves.
Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia need surgical treatment when their condition develops to a certain extent. Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia are prone to the following complications after surgery, and their families should pay attention to them.
1. Urethral stricture
Urethral stricture is a serious complication of indwelling balloon catheters. In addition to using antibiotics to prevent infection after surgery, it is important to keep the patient's perineum clean, disinfect the urethral orifice with 1% bromogeramine or 0.5% iodophor daily, and pay attention to keeping the patient's bed clean.
2. Cystospasm
Continuous bladder irrigation with sterile physiological saline after electroresection of the urethra and prostate is a common complication of bladder spasm. It can be alleviated by removing the catheter as soon as possible and taking oral antispasmodic drugs as instructed by the doctor. Family members should closely observe the patient and promptly notify medical personnel if the patient feels unwell.
3. Bleeding
Early postoperative bleeding in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia is a common complication after urethral resection of the prostate. If patients experience excessive bleeding, they may experience symptoms such as bladder distension, decreased blood pressure, and increased pulse rate. In severe cases, shock may occur. If family members find that the drainage color is dark red, accompanied by small blood clots, and the drainage tube is still not smooth after being squeezed, they should promptly notify the medical personnel for relevant treatment.
4. Bedsore
Family members should roll over the patient once every 2 hours. When turning over, the movements should be gentle and gentle, avoiding dragging, pulling, and pushing movements to reduce friction on the skin. Soft pillows can be placed on the back and bone protrusions, and dirty and wet sheets, clothing, and pants can be replaced in a timely manner to keep the skin clean and prevent bedsores.
